PITCHFORD C.P.
PITCHFORD
Garden retaining wall with doorway and summerhouse adjoining Pitchford Hall to south-west

GV
II

Garden retaining wall with doorway and summerhouse. 1870's or 1880's
by George Devey. Coursed red sandstone rubble, snecked in parts, with
sandstone ashlar dressings, and stone coping. L-plan with circular
summerhouse in south-west corner and returning to Pitchford Hall (qv)
at north. Approximately 100 metres long and approximately 2.5 metres
high, ramped down to approximately 1 metre at east end; doorway in
west wall with chamfered reveals, depressed arch and nail-studded
boarded door with wrought iron strap hinges; short retaining wall to
pathway adjoining to west at this point. Summerhouse with low stone
walls, 3-bay open front with square-section wooden columns and central
entrance, and conical stone slate roof with lead globe finial. The
wall and summerhouse form an important part of the setting of Pitchford
Hall (qv) by enclosing the large lawn to its south.
