Description

ST02SE WELLINGTON WITHOUT CP
THORNE ST MARGARET VILLAGE
3/178
Hitchcock family monument in
churchyard, about 5 m east of
chancel, Church of St Margaret

GV II

Part of chest tombs reset as memorial. Early C19, altered possibly early C20. Rendered rubble wall with flat stone
coping, inset with one side of chest tomb: moulded cornice and plinth, fluted pilasters flanking lias tablet inscribed
to Louisa Hitchcock, died 1827, and to other members of the family. A pencil drawing in the church dated 1819, probably
a copy, shows a chest tomb in this position with railings.
