CAYTHORPE
CAYTHORPE HEATH LANE
Garden Terraces, Caythorpe Court

G.V.
II

Garden terraces, circa 1900, by Sir R Blomfield. Coursed limestone rubble
with ashlar dressings. The 2 terraces are on the west (garden) front of
the house. The first has a battered revetment wall with pilasters, and is
surmounted by an open balustrade, the square piers of which have cornices and
large stone balls. The central opening leads onto a platform supported by
an open segmental arch, from which balustraded staircases descend to either
side. The lower terrace also has a battered and pilastered wall, but it
terminates in a plain stone coping. The central opening leads to a solid
platform from which a pair of flanking balustraded stairs descend to the
lower terrace. The terraces frame the prospect of the main west front of
the house. Included for group value only.
