Farmhouse, C17 with later additions and alterations. Brick, rendered at
front and sides; roof of slates and stone slates, hipped at the right hand
end, with 3 ridge chimney stacks. Roughly L-shaped plan formed by the
addition of a double-pile range of 3 bays facing west to the rear of the
left half of an earlier 2-bay house which faces south and has a 2-storey
gabled projection at its centre (probably the original porch). Two storeys;
present front door at junction of the later building and the original house
has a gabled brick porch, and is flanked on each floor by tall 20-paned
casement windows; 2 similar but smaller windows on each floor at left hand
end. The south front is now blind except for one small window on each
floor in the left side wall of the former porch, and one larger window on
each floor to the right of it; all these have glazing bars. Interior:
unusual halved quarter round moulded beams on both floors of original house
and in bay to rear of it; coved cupboard with painted spandrels; spiral
newel attic staircase; and in front upper chamber a painted wooden
overmantel depicting a landscape with castle and 5 figures in early C17
dress, flanked by pairs of slim columns coupled at the head by a scrolled
cap of Ionic design. Two stones, lettered "C T C" and "1684", now incor-
porated in garden wall (which is not include in the item) may be from the
house.
