First quarter of C14, perhaps rebuilt 2nd half of C14. Work on the adjoining city
walls began 1352 or 1355. Licence to crenellate was granted 1363, to complete
the work 1385. Sandstone with 4 centred arch, side buttresses and C19 or modern
embattlements. 1 double light stone mullioned window with trefoil cusped arches.
Gargoyles. Only remaining functional gate in the city.
Scheduled Ancient, Monument.

Forms a group with Swanswell Gate and City Wall to north of Swanswall Gate,Hales Street.]
