Country house, Late C16, porch c. 1635, rear bay c.1700, restored 1957. Brick with
slate roofs. E plan, 3 bays of east range demolished c.1700. North front of 3 storeys
in 6 bays, the west bay wider forming cross wing. 3 storey north porch. Entrance arch
Renaissance style: moulded round arch under square hood flanked by Roman Doric
pilasters supporting pedimented entablatmes on which stand 2 obelisks. Each bay of
facade with 3-light pedimented cross casement windows rendered to imitate stone, those
to west bay 5-light, and all bays with stepped gables at skyline. Half stepped gable
between west gable and main range. Gabled roofs. North wall has pedimented door to
ground and 3 pedimented cross casement to first floor, the centre one not blocked. 2
wheel tie plates. Internal stack stepped down to wall with plinth supporting triple
octagonal flues. Crenellated parapet. South front articulated by 3 gables. Western 2
stepped containing 3-light cross casements as before. To right one crenellated flat-
topped additional bay of c.1700 in 2 storeys with 3 cross casements, this bay set back
necessitating blocking of casements in flanking bays. To right again one 3 storey
gabled bay, unstepped, with 3-light timber cross casements either C18 or 1957 in
altered openings. East wall has stepped buttress of C18 and large stepped external
stack, once internal, with twin octagonal flues. Very large stack over porch with
rectangular plinth and 6 octagonal flues. INTERIOR. Briding beams chamfer stopped,
Door from kitchen hollow and ovolo moulded. Dog-leg staircase rises to attics with
moulded handrails and turned balusters and at attic balustrade returns to form gallery.
Main downstairs room with fireplace under double wave moulded bressumer. Original
door opens from porch. First floor bedroom with panelling. Most doors original with
moulded surrounds. Roof structure unclear but relies on staggered butt purline.
