Gateway to Stodhart Lodge
GV II

Gateway. c1898. Rock-faced gritstone. Ashlar dressings with rock-faced panels.
Embattled wall with shallow plinth and pilasters to either side. Approximately
12 feet wide and 15 feet tall. Central pointed arched doorcase with rock-faced
voussoirs and quoins. Plank door. To either side a cast iron lion's head set
into the masonry. Slightly above,each pilaster has projecting band. To either
side, near top of door, projecting stone block with central rock-faced panel.
Immediately over arch, stone panel inscribed 'STODHART'. Over,stringcourse on
square corbels with central stone block. Between embattlements on parapet, a
plaque divided into three inscribed 'EKI 1802 - MIB 1898 - SIB 1862'. Plain
stone block over surmounted by seated lion. Included for group value.
