Former Cowper Endowed School, now 2 dwellings. Built 1839 following
bequest from H. Cowper in 1838. Converted, altered and re-roofed in
C20. Yellow stock brick with white brick dressings. Pantiled roof. H on
plan. 1 storey school room with attic on master's house. 2 broad gables
to front, that to left for school room has a tall 6 light mullion and
transom casement with flanking 2 light windows, hexagon and diamond
patterned panes, chamfered white brick surrounds, moulded kneelers to
coped gable parapet. Right gabled block was master's house, 1 and 2
light casements, similar details. Central linking range has a 1 storey
C20 addition to front with a pointed arched door and 2 light casements.
Behind an original 2 light gabled dormer with moulded kneelers, parapet.
To right on ridge of linking range is a cross axial stack with central
square and outer diagonally set shafts, 5 octagonal pots. Left end, C20
garage addition and a cross gabled bay to rear. Right end, 5 bays with
2 light casements and a C20 gabled entrance porch, 2 light gabled
dormer, rear bay a C20 addition. Rear of linking range has a gabled
dormer. Interior not inspected. (VCH 1912: Kelly's Directory 1898).
