5/109 Milestone at SX 859 749

Milestone. Probably 1824, the date of the turnpike between Bellamarsh
and Newcross. Granite post with a rounded top, dressed on 2-sides. 1
side is inscribed "To Chudleigh 3 miles to Exon 13"; the other "To
Newton 3 miles to Totnes 11". Particularly attractive lettering, most
of the inscription lower case with pronounced serifs.
