Description

SX 86 NE KINGSKERSWELL FORE STREET
Kingskerswell
3/166 No. 26
23.8.55
GV II
House with shop at front. Circa early C19, possibly remodelling of earlier house.
Rendered rubble walls with gable ended asbestos slate roof.
Plan of house unclear, probably 2 main rooms; shop built onto front of left-hand
room contemporary with house facade.
2 storeys with single storey shop built onto front at left-hand side. Asymmetrical
3-window front to house of circa early C19 sash windows on first floor flush with
outside wall; 2 outer windows are 16 panes, central one is 12 panes. Late C20
casement with small panes on ground floor to the right of the shop. Circa early
C19 shop front has pilasters with incised ornaments and reeded frieze. Probably
original glazed shop door has decorative marginal glazing. In right-hand side of
shop at rear is a similar door which gives access to house and has a rectangular
fanlight above.
Interior not inspected.
This is a relatively unusual survival of an early C19 shop-front in a fairly
unaltered state.
