Obelisk in a pond on the S bank of the Grand Union Canal serving as a
water gauge. 1825, dated in inscription. For Company of Grand Junction
Canal. Stone. Moulded base and cornice with shallow pediments about 1/3
of the way up the obelisk which is about 2½m high. 2 faces inscribed
testifying to an agreement between John Dickinson at Batchworth Mill,
the landowner R. Williams of Moor Park (q.v.) and the Grand Junction
Canal whereby the water level at this spot was fixed following a long
