11/195 Stable, Bays Court


GV II

Stable: probably early C19; roughly squared grey rubble below,
flatter stone used above, tiled roof. 3-bay, 2-storey. Front
towards house, projecting wing on left, with flight of stone steps
against it on right, opening to dog kennel below, flat stone
lintel; timber rail to half-landing. Boarded door at top to
loft, cambered head to frame, stone voussoirs: on left small,
square opening into extension, timber-frame, shutter missing.
Ground floor C20 boarded door to stable, with cambered brick arch
over; window to right with cambered stone arch over, and red stone
sill. Lean-to extensions to back and left return not of special
interest: openings to them from original building C20.
Internally main beams carry loft floor: recess in wall on left a
cupboard, followed by door into projecting wing; wing open to
roof, walls plastered, 3 wooden harness hooks, hatch back to loft
for litter. Roof trusses tie beam with angle struts. Forms
group with barn and house, (q.v.).
