5/168 The Old Rectory

House, formerly the Rectory. Early C19. Brick, rendered, under slate hipped
roof, tumerised, with brick stacks. Main range with outbuildings to left-hand
side both 2 storeys. Front: symmetrical, 3 bays, the middle narrower and
recessed, all under overhanging eaves on shaped brackets. Panelled pilaster
quoins to all corners. Central door panelled with panelled architrave and
lattice barred rectangular fanlight; upper windows, hornless sashes, 8 panes per
sash to outer windows, 6 panes to central window; ground-floor windows, with 8
panes above, 12 below. Three 6-pane hornless sash windows to separately roofed
block to left. All sashes are original. A high rendered wall swept from corner of main block hides the appurtenances from the garden. The Old Rectory is very similar in design to Bampfylde House (q.v.).
