Detached cottage, former farmhouse. Early C17. Brick walls - possibly
replacing timber frame, half hipped thatched roof, brick stack left of centre,
with oversailing cap. One storey and attic. At left end, projecting brick
angle piers suggest some rebuilding or alteration. Added porch with hipped
tiled roof and ledged door. Also casement with glazing bars. Ground floor
has 3 casements with glazing bars under segmental arches. Attic has 2 dormers
with casements with horizontal glazing bars. C20 rear lean-to with tiled
roof. Internally, lobby entrance plan. In central ground floor room, large
open fireplace with timber lintels, 2 bread ovens and cursing chamber.
Several deep chamfered and stopped ceiling beams. In attic, original timber
framed partitions in truss, cut through for later doorway. Original layout
similar to St John's, Hinton Martell (item no. 12/36) qv.
