6/11 Madura Cottage

GV II

House, early C17 or earlier, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof
thatched. 4 bays aligned approx. N-S with chimney stack in second bay from S
end. C20 lean-to extension to W. Single storey with attics. E elevation
(towards Mill Road), 3 C20 casement windows, and 2 more in shingled gabled
dormers. Roof half-hipped at S end, hipped at N end. Some framing exposed
internally. In N bay, axial beam with exposed joists of horizontal section,
unchamfered. In next bay, plain-chamfered axial beam with plain chamfered
joists of horizontal section, all with lamb's tongue stops. Remainder of
interior not inspected.
