TL 73 SW WETHERSFIELD BLACKMORE END ROAD

GV II

House. Late C16, altered in C17, C18 and C19. Timber framed, plastered, with
some painted brick, roofed with handmade red clay tiles and slate. 3-bay main
range aligned NE-SW, extended to NE by one bay with end stack in brick end
elevation. C17 one-bay extensions to NW and SE, forming a cruciform plan.
Single-storey extensions of various dates and designs in each angle. 2 storeys.
Scattered fenestration. C19 half-glazed door with 16 lights. The original
range has jowled posts, close studding with curved tension braces trenched to
the inside, chamfered binding beams with plain joists of horizontal section
jointed to them with soffit tenons with diminished haunches, face-halved and
bladed scarfs in both wallplates, clasped purlin roof with curved wind-bracing.
One tiebeam has been moved along. The SE extension has a chamfered axial beam
with plain joists of vertical section. RCHM 54.
