Pair of estate cottages. Circa 1750. Attributed to Thomas Wright of Durham.
Rendered; hipped thatched roof with overhanging eaves and decorative cut
boarding; brick stacks. Gothic cottage orne - T plan. Southern house. Single
storey and attics in 2 arched 'eyebrows'. 2 projecting bay windows on ground
floor with 1-2-1 light casements, 2-light casements in the attics; all with
Gothickpointed tracery and decorative lead glazing. Panelled door to left and
C20 door in east gable. Northern house. Lower rear wing. The thatched roof
sweeps down to form a pentice which is supported on rustic timber piers. Single
storey and attic. Two 2-light casements with similar glazing to the southern
house. Central C20 door. (The southern house also had a pentice, although it
was a separate structure from the roof - removed 197Os - 80s).
