8/182 Broadmead Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Late C17, extended C18. Rubble stone, Welsh slate and
tiled roof, brick stacks. Two-storey, 4-window. Planked stable
door in gabled brick porch to right of centre, two 3-light
casements to right, 2-light and 3-light casement to left. First
floor has three 2-storey casements and 3-light hollow-chamfered
mullioned casement to right, straight joint divides dressed
limestone right hand bay from rest, left hand also probably an
addition. Lean-to shed attached to left return, single-light attic
casement. Rear has outshut to right with 3-light casements,
outshut to left with deeply incised datestone; 1539, probably
reset and very similar to those on Manor Farmhouse (q.v.), 2-storey
rear wing with blocked doorway, 3-light casements, rear roof pitch
is tiled.
Interior has small stone fireplacewith winding stairs on one side
in south west room. Joinery includes doors with 2 fielded panels
and plank doors with strap hinges. First floor bedroom has
wainscot panelling and moulded plaster ceiling cornice, chamfered
beams and some plank and muntin partition also to first floor.
This farm was formerly-the property of Jesus College, Cambridge.
