7/178 Brink Top Farmhouse

G.V. II

House. Early C18 single storey house raised to 2 storeys later C18. Watershot
masonry to south front, larger random stone to east gable. 3 cells. 2 cell
house has quoins with added cell with quoins to west end. Reads: lst cell, 2
flat faced mullioned windows of 2 lights with same over. 2nd cell, 6-light flat
faced mullioned windows with two 2-light windows over. 3rd cell, 3-light window
with 2-light window over. Right hand return wall has 2-light chamfered
mullioned window to earlier gable (blocked). 2 gable stacks, one other at
junction of lst and 2nd cell. Rear has large coursed stone to lst floor and
watershot to 2nd floor. One single chamfered light (blocked). At right angles
added gabled porch has chimney to gable. The interior of this porch has
corbelled flue over a bakestone (a rare survival) and a stone sink. Over porch
entry to main range is 3-light chamfered mullioned window. Added cell in
watershot masonry has 5-light flat faced mullioned window with 4-light window
over.
Interior preserves 2 fireplaces with stone shelves, one retaining its cast iron
range.
