House, 1870, by John Douglas for 3rd Marquis of Westminster. Stone
dressed brown brick with steep gabled red tile roofs; gables
timber-framed and tile-hung. 1½ storeys, 2 bays. 2 rectangular
projecting tapered chimneys at gables. Moulded stone stringcourse at
first floor, stone mullioned windows to front (east) with chevron
leaded glazing; most other windows altered. Boarded front door on
ornate wrought iron hinges with ring knocker and lock plate. Small
attached yard with hip-roofed brick outbuilding.
Interior: 4-panel doors with shaped stiles and rails. All woodwork
pine.
Coursed sandstone garden wall with rounded flush copings and square
gateposts.
The design suggests influence from W Eden Nesfield's work.
