Croglin Low Hall
22.12.67 (formerly listed

G.V. II*

Byre, formerly barn. Probably early C16 with C19 extension to right and late
C19 end wall to left. Thick walls of large blocks of red sandstone slightly
raised in height (probably from the demolished tower), red sandstone slate
roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays, extended by one bay under common roof. 2 filled
ground floor entrances had deeply chamfered lintels. 3 plank doors in C19
openings, one partly in original opening. Upper floor C19 loft door has steps
cut into the stonework of the wall below. End wall left was rebuilt in the late
C19 to form passage between former adjoining wing linking to original tower. 3
levels of slit vents to rear wall, lower vents at ground level. Central part of
roof and part of rear wall in collapsed condition at time of resurvey. A rare
and early barn which forms part of a group of buildings of a similar date.
