House with boundary wall attached to rear. Late C18-early C19, with C20 alterations.
Rendered stone rubble. Concrete tiled roof, hipped to left and with gable end to
right. End stack to left with rendered shaft. Partly slate-hung.
Plan: 2-room plan, with one room to front heated from an end stack to left and one
room to rear. At the rear, the house is built over a fish cellar which faces on to
the beach. The wall is attached to rear left and encloses a small yard at the rear
of the house.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical one-window front. At ground and first floor to
left there is a C19 12-pane sash. To right a C20 half-glazed door. The right side
abuts the adjoining house. At the left side there is a small ventilator to the
cellar and a C19 12-pane sash at ground floor. At the rear, the wall is battered at
cellar level; at ground floor there is a 2-light window with external shutters and
late C19 4-pane sash at first floor. The wall enclosing the yard is battered;
painted at lower level and rendered above. The rear room of the house projects
beyond the Mermaid Cafe (q.v.) which is attached to right; this forms a two-storey
rear wing. On the inner side, this is slate-hung with C20 2-light casement at ground
floor and two late C19 8-pane sashes at first floor.
