SX 26 SW LISKEARD RURAL MOORSWATER

10/63 Limekiln

Limekiln with water wheel to rear, disused, circa mid C19. Rubblestone with cut
stone round arches to openings on front, north east and to sides on north west and
south east. Flat top. Rectangular plan with East Looe River running to rear.
Openings into 2 cylindrical chambers have deeply splayed reveals. Chamber
openings blocked. Rubblestone dividing wall to rear appears later. Entrance on
right. Partition for machinery including water wheel on rear. Remains of
undershot water wheel and gear driving a winch which was used to haul waggons
containing limestone and culm up a tramroad incline to the top of the limekiln.
Winch, friction drive, remains of brake and part of wheel extinct. At time of
inspection much overgrown.
