TL 51 SE LEADEN RODING

WNW of Leaden Roding Hall

GV II

Barn, late C17 Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with plain tiles. 8 bays
aligned N-S, with midstreys to east at bays 3 and 6. Lean-to extensions to
east of bays 1- 2 and 7 - 8. Walls with joggled girts and primary straight
bracing. Jowled storey posts, straight tiebeams of massive square section,
arch braces to them. In each roof truss one high collar and 2 inclined queen-
posts. 2 through-purlins in each roof pitch. Half-hipped at both ends.
Constructed of Baltic pine of high quality in long straight sections, with all
pegged jointing, an unusually early example, contemporary with the use of
imported softwood in rebuilding London after the Great Fire, 1666.
