TL 61 SW AYTHORPE RODING

6/5 GRANARY APPROX. 15 METRES
W OF FRIARS GRANGE FARMHOUSE

GV II

Granary, early C17. Timber-framed, weatherboarded, roof tiled. Walls have
primary straight bracing with inserted brick nogging inside weatherboards.
Roof fully hipped with short ridge, almost pyramidal. Central tiebeam
inserted, of re-used timber. A remarkable feature of this granary is that
the soffits of all joists, although concealed from view, are fully
chamfered with lamb's tongue-stops, believed to be an apprentice exercise.
Supported on four brick piers. Six bins constructed of machine-sawn softwood,
C19.
