SE 24 NW FARNLEY LEATHLEY TO FARNLEY ROAD

4/11 Leathley Bridge over
River Washburn

GV II

Bridge. Late C18 and earlier. Ashlar. Tall central arch, lower side
arches. Pointed cut-waters on north and south sides. Plain voussoirs,
rock-cut ashlar with plain projecting band over; parapet with shallow
pointed coping. Shallow buttresses between arches, the coping raised
slightly above them. North face: the voussoirs are set back slightly and
the cut-waters abut the bridge side. A straight joint visible on the under-
side of the main arch suggests that the remains of an earlier, narrower
bridge are incorporated in the C18 work. Possibly built 1767 as it is in
the same style as the Lindley Bridge upriver, (qv),which was rebuilt 1767.
