COWLING
COWLING HILL LANE
Long Syke Edge farmhouse and barn

II
Farmhouse, 1670 and attached barn, 1676. Rubble with stone slate roof. Two chimneys. Two storeys. Apparently a two-unit plan. The windows are double chamfered but lack all but the king mullion of the largest window, ground floor left. This six-light window has a hoodmould. The remaining ground floor window is of three lights, and those above are of two, three, two and two lights. At left hand end is a chamfered doorway with a staggered ogee head, above which is a plaque partly legible as "TTST MDCLXX"; another plaque above a plain doorway appears to read "1674". The attached barn has a plaque which reads "TT ST AD 1676".
