Description

SW 73 SW CONSTANTINE

5/43 Milestone at south west 714313
-
II

Milestone. Probably C18. Granite monolith in the form of a post with a rounded
head, about 0.3 metre wide, its height unknown because most of the foot of the stone is buried in the bank. Inscribed on the front in crude upper case
letters:
FROM
TRELO
N
WARRE
VI
The milestone is set into a bank on the side of this ancient ridgeway from Gweek
northwards to the main Truro-Helston road. It is interesting that the stone was
intended only for travellers to the great house of Trelowarren in Mawgan-in-Meneage parish qv.
