Description

WHIMPLE KNOWLE CROSS
SY 0497-0597
10/224 Jasmine Cottage
-
GV II

Small cottage. Probably C18, renovated circa 1950. Plastered cob, with or without
stone footings; stone rubble stack topped with C20 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: 3-room plan cottage facing east. The right end room, the kitchen, is a circa
1950 extension. The original cottage had a small unheated service room (now the
central entrance hall) and to left a living room with a gable-end stack. 2 storeys
with C20 service outshots to rear.
Exterior: nearly symmetrical 3-window front of C20 casements with glazing bars.
Central doorway contains a C20 door behind a contemporary porch. Roof is gable-
ended to left and hipped to right.
Interior: is largely the result of the circa 1950 modernisation and no carpentry
detail is exposed. Roof not inspected.
Jasmine Cottage is one of a group of attractive thatch-roofed cottages at Knowle
Cross.
