SX 48 SE CORYTON EASTCOTT

7/60 House about 50m north east
- of Ireland Farmhouse

GV II


House. Circa early C18. Stone and cob with 1940s wooden shingle roof gabled at
ends, formerly thatched. Large stone stack at left gable end, brick stack at right
gable end. Roof raised by courses of concrete block. Late C20 single storey lean-to
addition, addition and rear stair turret rendered. Original plan probably direct
entry 2-cell house with 1 heated room and rear stair turret. Stack at right gable
end may have been inserted when house was divided into 2 cottages probably in the
C19. 2 storeys. Irregular 3-window front with 2 plank doors at centre of front.
First floor windows left and right 2-light casements, 4-panes per light. First floor
windows left and centre similar, first floor window right, similar 3-light casement.
Interior: Large fireplace to stone stack has chamfered beam and cloam oven. Roughly
hewn wany ceiling beams. Stone floor. Rectangular stair turret has newel stair with
oak treads. Principals visible in upstairs rooms, no access to roofspace at time of
survey, 1985.
