Description

UPTON PYNE UPTON PYNE VILLAGE
SX 99 NW
3/51 Lychgate Cottage
18.11.76
- II
Cottage. C17. Plastered cob walls on a stone plinth, with thatched roof and
gabled ends. The building is L-shaped, the shorter wing, possibly a former barn
and now part of the house, being single-storeyed with a hipped roof. Main part of
the house is 3-room in plan, with end stacks, the left-hand (or W) containing a
bake oven projection and to its side, a fire window. 2 storeys, 3 windows to
each, with C19 and C20 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars. The ground
floor, left-hand C20 oriel on carved brackets possibly marks the position of the
original doorway. The present right-hand doorway has a thatched hood. The
external door of the former outbuilding has a renewed plank door in an opening with
a stopped and chamfered lintel. The internal division between the 2 right-hand
rooms is marked by a stud and plaster screen, unchamfered and unstopped. There are
3 roof-bays divided by large principals with collars.
