and east sides of Thurland Castle,
with wall from house to entrance

GV II

Walls, 1880s with earlier remains. Terrace retaining wall crenellated and
has buttresses with offsets. North and south corners of terrace have
projections of rounded plan, treated as bastions. On the north side the
wall returns against the house. On the south side it connects with the
wall from the house to the gateway. This wall contains 2 moulded doorways
and, towards its northern end, some re-set stone dressings which appear to
be of c.l600.
