Raised inscription painted black against white background: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / BURTON SALMON' (around head); 'DONCASTER / 18 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 5¾ MILES' (to north side); 'YORK / 18¾ MILES / TADCASTER 9¼ MILES' (to south side).
