CULLOMPTON
GRAVEL WALK
No. 14 (Old Chimes)

(Formerly listed as No 13 (Old Chimes) Gravel Walk)

GV
II

Detached house. Mid C19, possibly the remodelling of an earlier house. Plastered
cob, with stone footings. Gabled-end slate roof. Main range. Originally possibly a
3-room cross-passage plan with later wings to front and rear. 1 room deep, with
front and rear wings. 2 storeys.
Front (ie towards garden): main range with symmetrical 3-window range, 16- and 12-
pane hornless sash windows to first floor, another of 16 panes to left of porch,
latticed under tented lead roof; the right-hand window has been replaced by a C20
unbarred casement; wing with 16-pane hornless sash window.
Rear (ie to Gravel Walk): with central early-C20 wing; 2-light C20 casement windows,
porch to wing, open, of timber; another to main range, under lean-to roof; right-
hand end stack, and axial stack, brick shafts.
Interior: nothing early visible; the roof is apparently C19 A-profile. Included
for group value, No.13 Gravel Walk occupies an important site to the south-east of
the parish church.
