Knapton Hall Hotel

House, now hotel, c.1800. Rendered and whitewashed brick with roof of black
glazed pantiles. 2 storeys in 3 bays divided by 4 giant pilasters with
moulded capitals below cornice and parapet. Square pinnacles continue above
pilasters to terminate in ball finials. Side bays in form of 2 storey bow
windows with sashes and glazing bars, each of the 3 sashes separated by
pilaster strips. Central half glazed door below fanlight in rectangular
opening. Sash window above with glazing bars. At first floor a glazed
wrought iron verandah standing upon circular verticals and curving to imitiate
undulations of facade. Roof of this block obscured by parapet. 2
symmetrically placed stacks. Mid C19 rendered brick extension to rear. Hipped
roof of black glazed pantiles. All fenestration now C20. Interior with
wreathed and ramped handrail to staircase supported on fluted balusters (2
to each tread). Scrolled tread ends. Balustrade returns to form gallery
over doorway.
