6/56 Bradleigh Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Early-mid C17 with possibly earlier core, C19 modernisation. Plastered
rubble and cob; stone stacks topped with C19 brick; corrugated iron roof
(formerly thatch). L-shaped building with main block facing north-east and having
a 3-room-and-through-passage plan, the inner room at the north-west end (right of
front) with parlour block behind. 2 storeys throughout. Irregular 4-window front.
Passage door left of centre behind C19 porch with slated, gabled roof. Small 2-
light casements to inner room and chamber above, 3 lights to hall, service room and
chambers above, the latter having gables over rising from the eaves and shaped C19
bargeboards. All windows have small rectangular panes. Rear block has a 4-light
oak-framed window with ovolo-moulded mullions.
Inside most early features are hidden by C19 plasterwork and fittings. All beams
are encased except in passage (chamfered with scroll stops). Roof entirely of oak
A-framed trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. The house has been empty for
many years. The partly-collapsed barn and linhay to left are not included.
