- Model Cottages

GV II

Row of estate cottages. Circa 1870. Coursed rubble volcanic trap with
polychromatic brick quoins, jambs, lintels and moulded polychromatic brick stacks
under dry-slate gabled-end roofs with crested ridge tiles. Main range with 2
cross winds. 2 storeys. Front: Crosswings and gable dormers with wavy
bargeboarding; 2-light C19 window in each gable-wall with latticed leaded panes;
3-light bay window below. Main range between wings with 4 dormers, gabled with
bargeboarding, each of 2-lights with latticed leaded panes; pentice, open,
slated, supported by timber posts and arched braces; the main range breaks
through cross wings to form end gables, each with 2-light windows, barred;
gabled hipped porch in angle thus formed to right with fish scale clay plain tile
roof; C20 post-office to left. The timber gates with shaped caps on gate posts
may be contemporary. This interesting group of estate model cottages contributes
to the village scene by expensive use of materials.
