War Memorial. 1920. C.F.A. Voysey. Portland stone. Tall base surmounted
by Free Gothic column and cross. Cornice to pedestal which has a
dedicatory inscription and, on the other 3 sides, the names of war dead
all inscribed in fine gold lettering. Octagonal column with concave
sides and a loosely foliate capital. Diagonal buttresses to pedestal
with finials and flying buttresses to column. Similar flying buttresses
to iron gold painted cross. Re-erected 1973 on a stepped circular base
on the site of the demolished Church of St. John the Baptist. (Pevsner
1977).
