SO 3289 BISHOP'S CASTLE MARKET SQUARE (north side)

House, now shop and flats. Mid- to late-C18 with mid- to late-C19
alterations. Red brick with coursed limestone rubble plinth, pebble-
dashed to south, and slate roof, hipped to right. 3 storeys. Plinth,
wooden dentil eaves cornice, parapeted gable end to right at rear;
integral brick end stack to right and brick ridge stack to right at
rear. 3 bays; glazing bar sashes with gauged brick heads; 2 mid-
to late-C19 three-part shop fronts with pilastered surrounds flanking
central C20 half-glazed door. East front: 3 bays, 2 to left on second
floor and centre on first floor, blind. Two on ground floor to left
blank. The short curved-footed cruck reputed to be at the rear of
this building was not visible at the time of resurvey (July 1984).
