ST1629 BISHOP'S LYDEARD CP STATION ROAD (South Side)
Incorrectly shown on OS map as Station Cottages. Pair of cottages, now one dwelling. Mid C19. Irregularly coursed,
squared, red sandstone, double Roman tile gabled roofs with decorative bargeboards, brick stacks. "L"-plan. One and a
half storeys, 1:1 bays, sash windows with marginal glazing bars, first floor window on right breaks through the eaves,
gabled top with decorative bargeboards. Entrance in left-hand gabled wing, gabled porch with decorative ridge tiles,
bargeboards and finial, 4 panel door with tripartite rectangular glazed opening above. There is evidence of a blocked
opening ground floor left. The railway line from Taunton to Watchet opened in 1862; this was probably the station
master's house and is an attractive survival complete with all its trimmings.
