SJ 40 NE CONDOVER C.P. CONDOVER

5/85 Balustraded upper terrace
- to west of Condover Hall
with urns, bastion garden
house and 2 flights of
steps to lower terrace.

GV II

Balustraded west terrace. Probably early C17. Sandstone ashlar.
Approximately 150m in length. Open balustrade with square balusters and rectangular
piers flanked by round-arched openings and C-shaped brackets; piers
surmounted by C19 terracotta urns decorated with grotesque heads, and floral
motifs. 2 flights of steps at north end approach lower terrace (q.v.).
Square bastion at south end with splayed corner buttresses covers rib-
vaulted tunnel with round-arched 4-bay arcades to either side, serving
as garden house.
