5/85 Balustraded upper terrace
- to west of Condover Hall
with urns, bastion garden
house and 2 flights of
steps to lower terrace.


Balustraded west terrace. Probably early C17. Sandstone ashlar. Approxi-
mately 150m in length. Open balustrade with square balusters and rectangular
piers flanked by round-arched openings and C-shaped brackets; piers sur-
mounted by C19 terracotta urns decorated with grotesque heads, and floral
motifs. 2 flights of steps at north end approach lower terrace (q.v.).
Square bastion at south end with splayed corner buttresses covers rib-
vaulted tunnel with round-arched 4-bay arcades to either side, serving
as garden house.
