east corner of tower, Church of
St. Peter and St. Paul

GV II

Chest tomb; possibly mid C18; stone. Flat lid with simply
moulded edge. Corners, quarter-square balusters, carved with
square scrolls and leaf tendrils. Sides divided into 2 equal
panels by a recessed line: ends plain panels with raised margin.
Chamfered plinth. Lettering affected by weathering. Earliest
legible date 1730, with reference below to son, died 1784: records
Thomas and Elizabeth Dowding, died 1806, with later inscriptions,
up to at least 1862.
