Gateway to south-west of the Swan
Theatre

GV II

Gateway, now refuse area. c1880. By Dogshun and Unsworth.
Brick with ashlar dressings; hipped graduated slate roof with
lead ridge. Small rectangular structure with bowed left end
and wall to right end; attached wall to left return.
Ashlar-coped plinth; entrance with roll-moulded architrave and
plank gate, canopy swept out from roof; bowed end has a series
of slots with simple cut-brick enrichment; roof has finial to
end. Wall to right is ashlar above plinth, with arcade of 5
blind trefoil-headed arches; similar wall attached to left
return; late C20 wall forming small compound. Included for
group value.
