House, now 2 shops with dwellings. Late C17, enlarged and greatly altered.
Roughcast render and weatherboard painted white (believed to be cladding a
timber frame), red tile roofs, brick chimneys. Double-pile plan under 2-span
roof, the front range longer and overlapping the rear. Two-and-a-half storeys;
the 3-bay facade to the street now has modern single-storey shop fronts
projected from the ground floor (which are not of special interest), but the 1st
floor has imitation quoins, three 12-pane unhorned sashed windows, and a wooden
dentilled cornice (carried round); hipped roof with 2 inserted flat-roofed dormers;
external chimneys at the end walls, that at the right-hand end larger. The right-
hand return wall and the exposed end of the rear of this range are weather-
boarded. The rear range is also weather-boarded, with a cornice like that at the
front; at ground floor No.46 is covered by a long flat-roofed extension (not of
special interest) and No.44 has a modern glazed door and a window, but at 1st
floor No.44 has two 12-pane unhorned sashed windows; No.46 has a large louvred
ventilator and a dormer ventilator with a semi-circular hood. At the west end is
a small single-storey extension with a hipped roof, from which rises an extruded
gable chimney. Interior altered at ground floor, but otherwise not inspected.
