5207 The Lane Memorial
TQ 70 NW 5/70
Erected in 1898 in memory of Lieutenant Colonel Henry Lane (1827-95). The memorial
is a drinking fountain of square plan of which each side, above the base, forms
an aedicule. It is built of stone and red marble. The pilasters or columns
of each face are of marble. Stone pediment above these. On top of the 4 aedicules
there is inset a smaller section consisting of 4 clustered red marble columns
supporting a large stone top-piece.
Listed for its local historical, rather than architectural, interest.
