Includes No 20 Chestnut Walk. Two almshouses. Circa 1912. Red brick with
raised quoins. Swept, hipped plain tiled roofs with semi-dormers to north
and west. 1 ridge stack. Single storey and attic. One window in each face.
Entrance in re-entrant angle to south east, with flat hood on corner, rusticated,
brick pier. Half glazed door.
Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for
thrifty old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employ-
ing leading architects of the day.
