Formerly known as: Boundary and garden wall of Abbey Farm
AUDLEY END.
Enclosure wall to St Mark's College (qv). C17 with later
repairs and additions. Small red bricks with wide joints.
Irregular pentagonal plan approx 110m x 70m, college block set
within at W end. W run, front garden wall to college, C18
brick, approx 1m high, shaped coping, 2 gateways through. NW
and N runs mainly C17 brickwork, plinth, 2m high, principal
gateway at N corner has piers with low pyramidal caps, 2-leaf
gate. N run, E end, wall swept up to approx 2.5m and continues
S with high plinth, 2 C18 buttresses on E side. Inside (W
side), C17 walling, early C19 barn as lean-to, ruinous, was
formerly listed. Wall to S corner progressively reduced but
original battered early C17 buttress and high plinth. S end
now missing, S side, good C17 section, 2.5m high continues
back to meet front garden wall. At mid-length of S run, early
C19 inner garden wall spurred off towards SE cormer of college
but not meeting, complete lenth of work in brick framed panels
with flint and erratics, 2m high with shaped brick coping.
