Description

LYTHAM ST ANNES

SD32NE LYTHAM PARK, Lytham
621-1/3/74 Stable block approx. 40m NW of
Lytham Hall

GV II

Stable block, now garages, stores and flat. Probably C17, but
altered and enlarged in later C18 or earlier C19; and further
altered in C20. Brick, with some diapering on east outer wall
but otherwise painted; slate roofs.
Four ranges of building enclosing a rectangular courtyard,
with an entry at the south-west corner.
Two-storey north, east and south ranges, one-storey west
range. The rear (east) wall of the main range has evidence of
vertical joints near both ends (indicating that the north and
the south ranges are later additions), but the length between
these is of hand-made brick with much irregular diapering,
typical of the C17.
The front of this range (to the courtyard) has inserted C20
garage doorways for most of its length, but above these are 2
bullseye pitching holes (now glazed); the shorter north range
has 2 doorways and four 12-pane top-hung casement windows, and
2 similar pitching holes above; the single-storey west range
has 7 stable doorways with overlights, that in the centre with
a divided stable door.
Included for group value with Lytham Hall (q.v.) and with the
dovecote to the north (q.v.).
