Group of four headstones
approximately 25 metres north of
Church of St Andrew

GV II

Group of 4 early/mid C18 headstones approx 25m N of chancel of
Church of St Andrew (qv). Sandstone. (i) approx 20m N of
church. To John Downs d.1730. Approx 0.4m slab with moulded
sides and shallow bracket top; reverse has 3 castles, like
those of the arms of the town of Newcastle. (ii) approx 3m NW
of (i). To Ann Crow d.1724. Approx 0.5m high, bracketed top,
with deeply-cut 6-petal roses on head at base of curves. (iii)
approx 2m to N of (ii). To Dorothy Wilkinson. Date obscured by
earth. Slab approx 0.4m high with scalloped top. (iv) approx
5m N of (i) to Robert Dixon, d.176-. Slab approx 0.4m high,
with 3-scalloped top, the central arch the head of an angel,
others the wings.
