House. Early C18 with 19 and C20 alterations.
MATERIALS: coursed and squared Ham Hill stone and limestone
rubble, plain tile roof with forward-of-centre brick stack,
hipped to front; stepped stone coping and brick stack to rear
gable end.
PLAN: 3-unit plan at a right-angle to church steps, with an
entrance and through-passage in house to the left, No.17 (qv).
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; one-window range to front, 3-window range
to right return, facing west. Windows to the front are in
forward frames, 8/8-panes to first-floor, 10/10-panes to
ground-floor which has an architrave of stone jambs and
matching wooden lintel, possibly an early C19 shopfront. The
first-floor of the right return has C20 chamfered stone
mullioned windows to the right, and C20 metal-framed to the
left; the ground-floor has a C20 French window inserted into
the architrave of a former mullioned window, and a 4-light
mullioned window to the right. INTERIOR: a large stack to the
internal wall shows evidence of having had open fireplaces to
both sides; the front room has a stone-flagged floor; a
chamfered cross-beam to each ground-floor room, and an open
fireplace to the rear room. c1850 alterations include a
staircase with stick balusters and turned newels, a stair
window to the right return with coloured margin-panes, and
4-panel doors.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: An attached coursed and squared limestone
wall approx 2m high, with Ham Hill stone coping, encloses the
garden to the right, (west).
